Seiska mobile app launch on Pugpig Bolt

The Finnish gossip magazine, Seiska, is the latest app to launch on Pugpig Bolt and is the first Finnish publication powered by Pugpig.

Thanks to this exciting launch and our work around app locales, all Bolt customers can now seamlessly launch their app in any language.

While this was already possible on Bolt (take CNN Business Arabic which launched in February 2023, for example), our customers now have the ability to add any locale to an app during the build process, meaning the process is now a lot faster and easier.

This product development for Bolt could also be particularly interesting for English-speaking media brands who want to take their app global. Note that we may need initial translations for locales we’ve not worked with before. Get in touch if this is something you’re interested in learning more about.

Let’s take a closer look at the brand new Seiska app

Having previously had an editions-based app on a different publishing platform, Seiska’s new Bolt app promises a much more premium offering for their readers beyond just digital editions.

Using Bolt’s new timeline layouts feature, the Seiska content timelines are beautifully responsive across all devices, promising the best user experience whether the reader is opening on the app on mobile or tablet. These ‘latest stories’ timeline sits alongside the magazine digital edition.

Video: The app uses video as a way of driving up engagement and increasing time spent in-app. This is done through a webview of Seiska’s own video player, and can also be done via Bolt’s out-of-the-box video card

Ads: One of the core drivers for launching the app for Seiska was to create a more premium experience in a bid to drive up average engagement per user. The app enables them to collect better analytics and data information on their users – this combined with the expected higher engagement will allow them to increase CPM. This is done through Bolt’s Google Ad Manager integration.

In total, the build took around three months, kicking off in mid September and launching in December.

Dom Easter, Customer Director at Pugpig said:

The product team at Seiska have been an absolute dream to work with and we’re looking forward to seeing how the app takes shape over the year and working with the Seiska team to reach their goals around user engagement.”
