YubaNet, the local news outlet serving Nevada County, California, has launched a new mobile app on Pugpig Bolt, built through our partnership with Newspack.
Founded in 1999, YubaNet has been digital-only from day one, covering wildfire and emergency news, local government and community events across Nevada City, Grass Valley and Truckee – the three municipalities in Nevada County, California.
Time-sensitive fire reporting and live data from the National Interagency Fire Centre are pulled into the Fire News timeline. Users can track active fires across California and beyond through an NIFC-powered map, alongside a national preparedness level and current situation summary.

The Happening Now timeline adds another layer with minute-by-minute updates on breaking local emergencies, active wildfires and road conditions. Users are invited to text in photos and updates, ensuring the feed reflects what’s actually happening on the ground.
The app serves the community beyond emergency coverage too. A dedicated Events tab brings YubaNet’s community events calendar into the app – readers can search by date, city and distance to find what’s going on locally.
YubaNet: Local Picks, YubaNet’s podcast series, is available to listen to directly in the app through Bolt’s native audio player, giving listeners another way to engage when reading doesn’t suit the moment.
This is another exciting launch delivered through our partnership with Newspack, making it easier and more affordable for independent local publishers to bring their journalism to mobile.
The YubaNet app is available to download on iOS and Android – scan the codes below to take a look.
